UPCYCLE Presented at REDYSIGN Workshop on Sustainable Meat Packaging

Upcycle Plastics - REDYSIGN Workshop 2026

The UPCYCLE project was recently presented during the Workshop on Innovation in Sustainable Meat Packaging, organised within the framework of the REDYSIGN project General Assembly. The workshop took place on 3 March 2026 at IRTA Torre Marimon in Caldes de Montbui (Catalonia, Spain) and brought together around 30 stakeholders from across the meat and packaging value chain.

The event was co-organised by REDYSIGNPackaging Cluster, and INNOVACC, providing a platform for dialogue between industry, research organisations, retailers, and technology providers working on the transition toward more sustainable and circular packaging solutions.

During the workshop, UPCYCLE project partner EROSKI introduced the UPCYCLE project and its approach to advancing sustainable solutions in the plastics and packaging sector. The presentation highlighted the project’s work in developing innovative strategies for transforming plastic waste into high-value circular materials, supporting the transition toward a more sustainable and circular plastics economy.

The workshop aimed to explore synergies between complementary initiatives addressing sustainability challenges in food packaging. Alongside UPCYCLE, participants were introduced to the work of several other initiatives:

  • REDYSIGN, which is developing smart fibre-based packaging solutions for fresh meat derived largely from lignocellulosic materials and designed to be recyclable-by-design.
  • OXICOOK, which presented innovations focused on improving shelf life and preservation strategies for fresh meat products.
  • ECOPHIR APP, which showcased digital tools designed to improve traceability and the management of reusable packaging systems.

The workshop fostered cross-sector dialogue on advancing sustainability, functionality, and traceability in meat packaging, reflecting the systemic approach required to transition toward circular and recyclable packaging solutions.

By presenting UPCYCLE during this workshop, EROSKI contributed to strengthening collaboration between EU-funded projects and industry stakeholders, highlighting the importance of joint innovation efforts to accelerate the adoption of circular packaging solutions across the food sector.

Events like the REDYSIGN workshop demonstrate how collaboration between research projects, industry actors, and technology providers can help drive the transition toward more sustainable and circular packaging systems in Europe.
