UPCYCLE at EUBCE 2026: bringing circular plastics into the bioeconomy conversation

Upcycle Plastics - EUBCE 2026

The UPCYCLE project was featured at the 34th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE 2026), held from 19 to 22 May in The Hague, the Netherlands. Bringing together researchers, industry leaders and policymakers from across the bioeconomy sector, the event explored how innovative technologies can accelerate the transition towards more sustainable and resource-efficient production systems.

Through the participation of project partner AIMPLAS, UPCYCLE was presented at the exhibition area, where project flyers and dissemination materials were shared with visitors throughout the conference. This provided an opportunity to introduce the project’s work to an audience interested in circular solutions, bio-based innovation, and the future of sustainable materials.

While EUBCE traditionally focuses on biomass and bio-based value chains, many of the discussions taking place during the event reflected themes that are highly relevant to UPCYCLE. The search for alternatives to fossil-based resources, the efficient use of waste streams, and the development of circular production systems are challenges shared across both the bioeconomy and the plastics sectors.

Against this backdrop, UPCYCLE’s approach to transforming hard-to-process plastic waste into valuable resources offered a relevant contribution to the wider conversation on sustainability and circularity. Through biotechnology and advanced processing routes, the project is exploring new pathways that can help retain material value while reducing environmental impact.
