UPCYCLE at the Berlin Clustering Event on Sustainable Bioplastic Packaging

UPCYCLE Project - Berlin Clustering Event on Sustainable Bioplastic Packaging

UPCYCLE was delighted to take part in an exclusive in‑person clustering event dedicated to the future of sustainable and safe‑by‑design bioplastic packaging. Held in Berlin on 1 December at the Titanic Chaussee Berlin Hotel, the event gathered Horizon Europe projects, industrial innovators, researchers, and packaging experts for an evening of knowledge exchange and collaboration.

As regulatory expectations continue to evolve and the need for environmentally responsible packaging grows, the event focused on a central question: How do we design bioplastic packaging that is safe, sustainable, recyclable, and aligned with future EU requirements?

The programme highlighted outstanding research and recent discoveries from several Horizon Europe initiatives including:

with additional contributions from European Bioplastics members.

Participants explored advancements in bio‑based materials, sustainable processing strategies, innovative recycling pathways, and practical applications supporting a circular packaging value chain.

During the session, UPCYCLE presented its vision and technological developments for transforming today’s non‑recyclable plastic waste into highly recyclable and more biodegradable packaging materials. By building on the achievements of the H2020 UPLIFT project and progressing toward TRL7 demonstration, UPCYCLE is actively shaping new circular value chains for Europe’s packaging sector.
