About

BIO-MI is a Croatian small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) specializing in the development and production of bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable materials, as well as final and semi-final products applicable across various sectors.

The company’s research and development activities cover a wide range of initiatives focused on creating new products, processes, and technical solutions. BIO-MI conducts research within the framework of EU-funded research and innovation projects and is involved in several areas, including internal projects focused on developing the MI family of materials, private R&D collaborations with companies and research and technology organizations (RTOs), and national and international research projects in the fields of biopolymers, advanced materials, and technologies.

The company’s project priorities align with the European Green Deal and the Circular Bio-based Europe (CBE) programs. Since 2017, BIO-MI has been a full member of the Biobased Industries Consortium (BIC) and actively participates in numerous projects funded under Horizon programs.

Role in Upcycle

BIO-MI is involved in the UPCYCLE project, where it contributes to the development of formulations and the technology transfer of the most promising formulations to an intermediate scale in WP4. Additionally, BIO-MI leads WP6, which focuses on scaling up the production of compounds and flexible films for fresh food packaging.
