PACK4FOOD

About

Pack4Food is a consortium uniting companies and knowledge institutions with over 20 years of expertise in food packaging innovation.

Its multidisciplinary platform combines industrial and academic know-how, creating a unique hub for tackling packaging challenges such as barrier performance, shelf-life extension, bio-based and intelligent packaging and sustainable end-of-life solutions including reuse and recycling.

With a strong track record, Pack4Food has coordinated and successfully completed more than 20 collective research projects, as well as numerous bilateral collaborations. It actively involves stakeholders across the food packaging value chain, ensuring that research outcomes address both industrial realities and consumer needs. Its extended expertise and large European network enable the identification of suitable packaging systems and materials for specific food applications, making it a valuable partner in high-TRL projects and applied research.

At the international level, Pack4Food has participated in over 10 EU-funded projects (CORNET, H2020) and currently coordinates the Smart Specialization Partnership on Sustainable Food Packaging (S3 Food Packaging), which brings together 19 clusters from 11 countries. This partnership significantly strengthens knowledge dissemination and accelerates the uptake of innovations across Europe.

In addition, Pack4Food is highly experienced in communication, dissemination and exploitation activities. With proven tools such as publications, training, tutorials and events, it ensures broad and effective outreach to the entire food packaging value chain.

Through its expertise, network, and dissemination capacity, Pack4Food is ideally positioned to contribute to European projects advancing sustainable and circular food packaging solutions.

Role in Upcycle

Within WP1 (Advancement in scalable depolymerization of plastic waste, M1–M8), P4F participates in all tasks and takes a leading role in Task 1.3, where it organizes a Belgian industry round table on market analysis, in close collaboration with AAU (Denmark) and AIMPLAS (Spain). P4F is also involved as co-organizer in the round tables in Denmark and Spain. These activities ensure strong engagement of local stakeholders and alignment with industrial needs.

In WP8 (Dissemination, Communication & Exploitation, M1–M48), P4F is actively involved in all tasks and is specifically responsible for Task 8.2, focusing on collaboration and synergies with other projects. Leveraging its international network and its coordination of the European S3 Food Packaging Partnership, P4F will assess opportunities for cross-project cooperation and maximize knowledge transfer.
