From 24 to 28 June 2026, the UPCYCLE project will take part in the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management (KOS 2026) held on the island of Kos, Greece. The conference brings together researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers working on practical solutions to improve waste management and strengthen circular resource use.
A shared session with sister projects
UPCYCLE will contribute to the programme with a dedicated session organised together with several Horizon Europe sister projects. The session will present ongoing work from different initiatives addressing the challenge of converting low-value or hard-to-process plastics into new materials.
Bringing these projects together highlights the added value of European cooperation and creates space to exchange results, compare approaches, and identify where solutions can scale or connect across sectors.
A closer look at UPCYCLE’s work
During the session, Passanun Lomwongsopon from the project partner coordinator, Aalborg University will present UPCYCLE’s work under the title:
“Upcycling of Polyolefin Wax into Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs)”
The presentation focuses on transforming a specific stream derived from plastic waste into biodegradable bioplastics. These materials can support applications where conventional plastics remain difficult to replace, while also contributing to reducing their long-term environmental impact.
This work forms part of UPCYCLE’s broader objective to develop new circular pathways for plastics, particularly for materials that are not currently suited to conventional recovery routes.
Looking ahead to the event
KOS 2026 offers more than a technical programme. It creates a setting for exchange between projects, sectors, and disciplines, helping to connect research with real-world application.
UPCYCLE will be present, sharing progress and engaging with partners and stakeholders working on sustainable materials and circular solutions. Join us!
