UPCYCLE took part in Plastics & Rubber Spain 2026, one of the key meeting points for the plastics and rubber sectors in the Iberian Peninsula. Held on 11–12 March, the event brought together companies, research centres and industry professionals working on sustainability and circular economy solutions.
Engaging with the sector
Throughout the fair, AIMPLAS, partner of the project, was active in the exhibition area, sharing information about their work on sustainable materials, recycling and new applications for the plastics and rubber industry. Their presence created opportunities to exchange perspectives with companies, technology providers and professionals interested in advancing circular solutions.

AIMPLAS also contributed to several sessions within the technical programme, where UPCYCLE’s work was presented, showcasing ongoing efforts in circular economy and plastic waste valorisation. One of the contributions was delivered by Belén Monje Martínez, Sustainable Chemistry Cluster Leader at AIMPLAS, who highlighted how sustainability has become a design requirement rather than an added value. Her presentation explored advanced materials, the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach and industrial transfer strategies aimed at accelerating adoption across the value chain.
These themes resonated strongly with the objectives of UPCYCLE, particularly in areas such as the use of biobased or recycled feedstocks, optimised formulations, improved performance with recovery pathways and environmental validation through LCA and carbon footprint assessments. Through these contributions, the project was part of the technical discussions and exchanges on innovations and developments taking place during the event, connecting with broader European sustainability initiatives.
A space for exchange and collaboration
Participation in Plastics & Rubber Spain 2026 made it possible to:
- Present the project’s objectives to industry stakeholders
- Exchange perspectives with key actors in the sector
- Identify potential collaboration opportunities around circular economy
Beyond these interactions, the event offered a valuable opportunity to observe emerging trends, understand industry priorities and connect UPCYCLE with ongoing conversations shaping the future of sustainable materials. The insights gathered will support the project’s continued engagement with the sector and contribute to strengthening collaboration across the value chain.
